Biography
Donald Ogden Stewart was an American writer and screenwriter. Born on 30 November 1894 in Columbus, Ohio, he graduated from Yale University and began publishing humorous writing in the early 1920s. He was a member of the Algonquin Round Table and wrote plays as well as screenplays.
Stewart is best known for his work adapting plays and novels for the screen in the 1930s and 1940s. His credits include the screenplays for Holiday (1938), The Women (1939), Love Affair (1939) and The Philadelphia Story (1940), for which he received the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. He also contributed to Manhattan Melodrama (1934), The Prisoner of Zenda (1937) and Life with Father (1947). He was blacklisted in the early 1950s and subsequently lived in England until his death on 2 August 1980 in London.
