Biography
Fred Guiol (1898–1964) was an American film director and screenwriter. He worked at the Hal Roach Studios for many years, first as a property man and later as a director. There he directed several of Laurel and Hardy's earliest short films in 1927.
Guiol collaborated with director George Stevens on a number of projects. He wrote the screenplay for Gunga Din (1939) and, with Ivan Moffat, adapted Edna Ferber's novel for the film Giant (1956), earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. He also served as associate or second unit director on A Place in the Sun (1951) and Shane (1953).
