Biography
Gaby Chiappe is a British screenwriter. Born in Gibraltar around 1964, she moved to England at the age of three and studied English Literature at the University of Cambridge. After working as an actor in fringe theatre for a decade, she began writing for television, starting with the soap Family Affairs in the late 1990s.
She has written episodes of series including Lark Rise to Candleford, Vera (2011–2012), The Paradise and Shetland (2013–2015). Chiappe co-created the 2016 series The Level with Alex Perrin. Her feature screenplays include Their Finest (2016), for which she received a British Independent Film Award nomination, and the co-written Misbehaviour (2020). She has also written for The Beast Must Die (2021) and served as head writer on series 6 of Slow Horses (2026). She received a British Academy Scotland Award nomination for her work on Shetland.
