Biography
Gary Lydon was an Irish stage and screen actor. Born Gary Mark O'Brien in London on 11 September 1964 to Irish parents, he moved with his family to County Wexford as a child and later adopted his mother's surname for his professional career.
He began acting with the Wexford Theatre Co-op and first came to prominence in the mid-1980s in Billy Roche's Wexford Trilogy of plays. Lydon appeared in numerous films including The Guard (2011) as Garda Inspector Gerry Stanton, War Horse (2011), Calvary (2014), Brooklyn (2015) and The Banshees of Inisherin (2022) as Peadar Kearney. On television he played Patrick Murray in the RTÉ series The Clinic (2003–2009), for which he won an IFTA award.
Lydon died on 30 April 2026.
