Biography
Gemma Elizabeth Whelan is an English actress and comedian. She was born in Leeds in 1981 and attended The King's High School for Girls in Warwick and the London Studio Centre. She began her career as a stand-up comedian, winning the Funny Women Variety Award in 2010.
Whelan is known for playing Yara Greyjoy in the HBO series Game of Thrones (2012–2019). She has appeared as Marian Lister in the BBC drama Gentleman Jack (2019–2022), Geraldine in the third series of Killing Eve (2020), Kate in Upstart Crow (2016–2018), and Detective Eunice Noon in The End of the F*ing World (2017). Other credits include roles in The Crown (2016) and the film Emma. (2020).
