Biography
Gregory Gaye (born Grigoriy Grigoryevich Ge; also credited as Gregory De Gay, Gregory Gay and Greg Gay) was a Russian-American character actor. Born on 10 October 1900 in Saint Petersburg, Russian Empire, he was the son of an actor and trained as a cadet in the Imperial Russian Navy. After the 1917 Revolution he began a stage career in Europe and the Orient before emigrating to the United States in 1923.
Gaye made his film debut in the 1928 silent Tempest and appeared in over a hundred films, often in small roles as aristocrats, diplomats or officials. His credited screen roles include Baron Kurt Von Obersdorf in Dodsworth (1936), Count Alexis Rakonin in Ninotchka (1939) and uncredited parts in Casablanca (1943) and Topaz (1969). He also worked in television from the 1950s, with guest appearances in series such as Mission: Impossible and The Time Tunnel. He died on 23 August 1993 in Studio City, Los Angeles.
