Biography
Hannes Nikel, also credited as Johannes Nikel, was a German film editor. Born on 13 April 1931 in Munich, he died there on 26 September 2001.
He is best known for editing Das Boot (1981), for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Film Editing. He also edited Stalingrad (1993), for which he won a Bavarian Film Award, as well as Enemy Mine (1985) and Shattered (1991). Nikel frequently collaborated with director Wolfgang Petersen, serving as second unit director on Das Boot, The NeverEnding Story (1984) and Enemy Mine. His earlier credits include assistant editing on Lola Montès (1955) and extensive work in German television.
