Biography
Hazel Pethig (born 1944) is a British costume designer for film and television. She was brought up in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, and began her career at the BBC. In 1969 she was assigned as costume designer to the sketch series Monty Python's Flying Circus, creating the look for its surreal characters including the Gumby figures.
Pethig designed costumes for the Monty Python films Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) and Monty Python's Life of Brian (1979), as well as Jabberwocky (1977). She worked on the BBC miniseries The Singing Detective (1986), receiving a BAFTA nomination for Best Costume Design. Other credits include A Fish Called Wanda (1988) and Fierce Creatures (1997). She has also taught on the BA (Hons) Costume Interpretation course at Wimbledon School of Art.
