Biography
J.A.C. Redford is an American composer, arranger, orchestrator and conductor. Born in Los Angeles in 1953, he began scoring documentaries and educational films in his early twenties before moving to Los Angeles in the mid-1970s to work in television, initially as a co-composer on Starsky & Hutch. He later studied composition and counterpoint with Thomas Pasatieri.
Redford composed the music for nearly 500 episodes of series television, including multiple seasons of Coach and St. Elsewhere (1982–1988), for which he received two Emmy nominations. His feature-film scores include Disney’s Oliver & Company (1988), Newsies (1992) and The Mighty Ducks sequels. He has also orchestrated, arranged or conducted for composers including James Horner, Alan Menken, Randy Newman, Rachel Portman and John Williams on films such as WALL·E (2008), Avatar (2009) and 1917 (2019). His concert, chamber and choral works have been performed by ensembles including the Los Angeles Master Chorale and Utah Symphony.
