Biography

Jim Denault is an American cinematographer. He graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1982 with a BFA in photographic illustration and moved to New York City in 1989, where he began working in the camera department on independent films.

His early credits as director of photography include Another Girl Another Planet (1992) and Nadja (1995), the latter earning an Independent Spirit Award nomination. He has worked frequently with director Jay Roach on projects including Recount (2008), The Campaign (2012), Trumbo (2015) and Game Change (2012). Other notable credits include Boys Don't Cry (1999), City of Ghosts (2002), Pitch Perfect 2 (2015), Bad Moms (2016) and episodes of Six Feet Under (2005), Carnivàle (2005) and Yellowstone (2018–2020).

Denault has received Primetime Emmy Award nominations for his work on Carnivàle and Game Change. He is a member of the American Society of Cinematographers, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
