Biography
Joan Harrison was an English screenwriter and producer. She began working for Alfred Hitchcock as his secretary in 1933 and became one of his closest collaborators, contributing to the screenplays for several of his films including Jamaica Inn (1939), Rebecca (1940), Foreign Correspondent (1940), Suspicion (1941) and Saboteur (1942).
Harrison moved to Hollywood with Hitchcock in 1939. She produced her first film, Phantom Lady (1944), and went on to produce The Strange Affair of Uncle Harry (1945), Ride the Pink Horse (1947) and other features. From 1955 to 1962 she produced the television series Alfred Hitchcock Presents and later The Alfred Hitchcock Hour.
She received Academy Award nominations for her work on Foreign Correspondent and Rebecca. Harrison married the novelist Eric Ambler in 1958.
