Biography
Jonathan Hale (born Jonathan Hatley) was a Canadian actor who appeared in films and television from the mid-1930s until the mid-1960s. Before his acting career he worked in the diplomatic corps.
He is best known for playing J.C. Dithers, Dagwood Bumstead's boss, in the Blondie film series and Inspector Fernack in several of the Saint films. Among his other screen credits are A Night at the Opera (1935), Fury (1936), Boys Town (1938), Hangmen Also Die! (1943), The Fountainhead (1949) and Strangers on a Train (1951), in which he played Mr. Antony. He also made numerous television appearances, including episodes of Adventures of Superman and The Cisco Kid.
