Biography
Julian Simpson is a British writer and director working in film, television and audio. He made his directorial debut at the age of 23 with the feature film The Criminal (1999), for which he also wrote the screenplay.
In television he has directed episodes of Spooks (2005–2006), Doctor Who (2011), Hustle (2009), Hotel Babylon (2008) and The Inspector Lynley Mysteries (2005). He wrote and directed multiple episodes of New Tricks between 2008 and 2015. He has also worked as a writer on several of these series.
Simpson has written and directed award-winning audio dramas for BBC Radio 4, including Bad Memories (2011) and Fugue State (2016), the latter of which won the Tinniswood Award.
