Biography
Károly Vass (also credited as Karl Vash or Karl Vass) was a Hungarian cinematographer. Born in Budapest in 1896, he began working in Hungarian film in the late 1910s before moving to Austria and then Germany in 1919–1920, where he continued his career during the silent era.
He contributed to several German productions, including as one of the cinematographers on Fritz Lang's The Testament of Dr. Mabuse (1933) and as a member of the camera team on Leni Riefenstahl's Triumph of the Will (1935) and the two-part Olympia (1938). He later returned to Hungary and worked on films there until the mid-1940s.
Vass died in Budapest in 1953.
