Biography
Lennie Mayne (born Leonard Edward Mainprize) was an Australian television director. Born in Sydney on 8 November 1927, he trained initially as an electrician before becoming a ballet dancer and choreographer. He moved to London in 1953 and later worked as a director for the BBC.
Mayne directed four serials of Doctor Who (1963): The Curse of Peladon (1972), The Three Doctors (1972–1973), The Monster of Peladon (1974) and The Hand of Fear (1976). He was one of only three directors to helm episodes featuring the first four actors to play the Doctor. His other credits include episodes of Doomwatch, The Onedin Line, The Brothers, Warship and Softly, Softly: Task Force.
He was married to actress Frances Pidgeon. Mayne died on 20 May 1977 following a boating accident at sea.
