Biography
Luchino Visconti di Modrone was an Italian film, theatre and opera director and screenwriter. Born in Milan in 1906, he began his career as an assistant director to Jean Renoir in France before making his feature debut with Ossessione (1943), which he also wrote.
His subsequent films include La terra trema (1948), Bellissima (1951), Senso (1954), Rocco and His Brothers (1960), The Leopard (1963), The Damned (1969), Death in Venice (1971) and Ludwig (1973). Visconti died in Rome in 1976.
