Biography
Lucian Msamati is a British-Tanzanian actor, director, producer and writer. Born in London in 1976 and raised in Zimbabwe, he studied French and Portuguese at the University of Zimbabwe before moving to the United Kingdom to pursue acting. He co-founded the Zimbabwean theatre company Over the Edge and later served as artistic director of the British-African company Tiata Fahodzi.
Msamati is known for his stage work, including becoming the first Black actor to portray Iago in a Royal Shakespeare Company production of Othello in 2015. On screen, his roles include Salladhor Saan in Game of Thrones (2011), Ed Dumani in Gangs of London (2020), Cardinal Adeyemi in Conclave (2024), Kofi Adomako in the series Hostage (2025) and Cornelius Faber in Run Away (2026).
