Biography

M. David Mullen is an American cinematographer. Born Merritt David Mullen III on 26 June 1962 in Iwakuni, Japan, he studied at the California Institute of the Arts from 1988 to 1991, where he was mentored by Krzysztof Malkiewicz. He later co-authored the third edition of the textbook Cinematography with Malkiewicz.

Mullen has photographed numerous independent features, including Twin Falls Idaho (1999) and Northfork (2003), both directed by the Polish brothers, as well as Jennifer's Body (2009), The Love Witch (2016) and Akeelah and the Bee (2006). His television credits include director of photography on the pilot of The Good Wife (2009) and episodes of Westworld (2016). He is a member of the American Society of Cinematographers and has won three Primetime Emmy Awards for his work on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017–2023).
