Biography
Madge Sinclair was a Jamaican actress. Born Madge Dorita Walters on 28 April 1938 in Kingston, Jamaica, she studied at Shortwood College for Women and worked as a teacher until 1966. She then moved to New York City to pursue acting, beginning with modelling and stage work including the New York Shakespearean Festival and Joseph Papp's Public Theatre.
Sinclair made her film debut in Conrack (1974). She appeared in Convoy (1978), Coming to America (1988) as Queen Aoleon, and voiced Sarabi in The Lion King (1994). On television she played Bell Reynolds in the miniseries Roots (1977) and Ernestine Shoop in Trapper John, M.D. (1980–1986). She received five Primetime Emmy nominations and won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for Gabriel's Fire in 1991. Sinclair was awarded the Order of Distinction by Jamaica.
She died in Los Angeles on 20 December 1995.
