Biography
Marcin Jakubowski is a Polish production designer and visual development artist working in animation. Based in Gdańsk, he is self-taught and began in digital art in the early 1990s before moving through web design, educational illustration and television commercials into feature animation.
He worked as production designer on several Blue Sky Studios films, including Ice Age (2002), Robots (2005), Ice Age: The Meltdown (2006), Horton Hears a Who! (2008) and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009). On Klaus (2019), directed by Sergio Pablos for Netflix and The SPA Studios, he shared the role with Szymon Biernacki. He developed the film’s distinctive 2D character lighting and shading system, which integrates hand-painted elements with volumetric lighting.
Klaus received seven Annie Awards, including Outstanding Achievement in Production Design for Jakubowski and Biernacki, as well as a BAFTA and an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature.
