Biography

Marlene Sidaway is a British actress. Born in Thornaby-on-Tees, North Yorkshire, she trained as an adding-machine operator after leaving school. In 1961 she moved to London and studied at the East 15 Acting School.

She has worked in television, film and theatre since the 1970s. Sidaway played Brenda Taylor in the ITV soap Coronation Street (1990–1992) and Maureen in the BBC sitcom Mum (2016–2019). Other television roles include Hill in Pride and Prejudice (1995), appearances in Midsomer Murders (1997–2000) and Mrs Esther Harrison in Foyle's War (2002). Film credits include Beautiful Thing (1996) as Betty and Me and Orson Welles (2008).

Sidaway is secretary of the International Brigade Society. She lived with her partner David Marshall from 1990 until his death in 2005.
