Biography
Matthew Carlson is an American television writer and producer. Born on 10 February 1951 in Manhattan, New York City, he studied at California State University, Northridge, where he earned a B.A. and an M.Ed.
He began his career in the late 1980s and is best known for his work on The Wonder Years (1988–1993), for which he received Primetime Emmy nominations, and Malcolm in the Middle (2000–2006), where he served as writer, producer and director. He created the series Men Behaving Badly (1996–2001), God, the Devil and Bob (2000) and others, and wrote the screenplay for the 1994 film Wagons East!.
Carlson’s later credits include writing and producing on Alexa & Katie (2018), The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers (2021–2022) and the 2026 revival miniseries Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair.
