Melissa Benoist is an American actress and singer. She was born on 4 October 1988 in Houston, Texas, and raised in Colorado. She graduated from Marymount Manhattan College with a Bachelor of Arts in theatre arts.

Benoist first gained prominence for her role as Marley Rose in the Fox series Glee (2012–2014). She is known for portraying Kara Danvers / Supergirl in the CBS/CW series Supergirl (2015–2021) and related Arrowverse productions. Her film credits include Whiplash (2014) as Nicole, Danny Collins (2015), The Longest Ride (2015), Patriots Day (2016) and Sun Dogs (2017).

On stage, she made her Broadway debut in 2018 as Carole King in the musical Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. She also appeared in the miniseries Waco (2018).
