Biography

Michael McDonough is a Scottish cinematographer and director. Born in Paisley in 1967, he studied fine art at the Glasgow School of Art and later attended New York University's graduate film programme.

He has worked extensively in independent film and television. His credits as director of photography include Winter's Bone (2010), Starred Up (2013), Leave No Trace (2018), Lou (2022) and the series Bosch (2015–2021), Mayor of Kingstown (2021–) and Untamed (2025). He is a member of the American Society of Cinematographers and the British Society of Cinematographers.
