Biography
Michel Legrand was a French composer, arranger, conductor, jazz pianist and singer. He studied at the Conservatoire de Paris from the age of 11, graduating with top honours as a composer and pianist. He first gained international attention with his 1954 album I Love Paris.
Legrand composed scores for more than 200 films and television productions. He is known for his work on The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964), The Young Girls of Rochefort (1967), The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), Summer of '42 (1971) and Yentl (1983). He received three Academy Awards and five Grammy Awards. He also composed the music for Atlantic City (1980).
