Biography
Morten Arnfred (2 August 1945 – 2 September 2025) was a Danish film director and screenwriter. He began working in film as a photographer and assistant in the early 1970s before directing his first feature in 1976. His early youth films Mig og Charly (1978) and Johnny Larsen (1979) were noted for their social realism.
Arnfred directed several features that screened at the Berlin International Film Festival, including Der er et yndigt land (1983) and The Russian Singer (1993). He co-directed the miniseries The Kingdom (1994–1997) with Lars von Trier and later worked extensively in television, directing episodes of The Killing (2007) and four episodes of The Bridge (2013). He was also involved in establishing the European Film College.
