Biography
Nigel De Brulier (born Francis George Packer) was an English stage and film actor. He began his career on the stage in the United Kingdom before moving to the United States in 1898. His first film role came in 1914 in The Pursuit of the Phantom.
De Brulier appeared in numerous silent films, including Intolerance (1916), The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (1921), Foolish Wives (1922), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923), Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ (1925) as Simonides, and Wings (1927). He portrayed Cardinal Richelieu in four films: The Three Musketeers (1921), The Iron Mask (1929), The Three Musketeers (1935) and The Man in the Iron Mask (1939). He also appeared as an Aristocrat (uncredited) in A Tale of Two Cities (1935).
One of the few silent-era actors to sustain a career in sound films, though often in smaller roles, De Brulier continued working until the early 1940s. He died in Los Angeles on 30 January 1948.
