Biography
Phoef Sutton is an American writer and producer. Born Robert Christopher Sutton on 11 September 1958 in Washington, D.C., he grew up in Virginia and graduated from James Madison University in 1981. He began his career as a playwright before moving into television.
Sutton wrote for Newhart and spent eight years on Cheers (1982), rising from staff writer to executive producer. He later worked on series including Bob (1992), NewsRadio, Almost Perfect, Thanks, Terriers (2010), Defiance (2013) and Boston Legal (2004), where he served as consulting producer. He received two Primetime Emmy Awards and a Writers Guild of America Award for his work on Cheers, and a Peabody Award and GLAAD Award for Boston Legal.
His film credits include screenplays for Mrs. Winterbourne (1996) and The Fan (1996). Sutton has also published several novels, including the Crush series and books co-authored with Janet Evanovich.
