Biography
Pierre Spengler is a French film producer born on 5 June 1947 in Paris. He began working in the film industry in 1964 and held early roles including production assistant on films such as The Madwoman of Chaillot (1969), Le Mans (1971) and The Light at the Edge of the World (1971).
In 1972 he became a partner in the Salkind Organisation. Alongside Alexander and Ilya Salkind he secured the film rights to Superman and produced the first three films starring Christopher Reeve: Superman (1978), Superman II (1980) and Superman III (1983). He also worked on other Salkind productions including The Three Musketeers (1973), The Prince and the Pauper (1977) and Santa Claus: The Movie (1985), and served as consultant on Supergirl (1984).
Spengler left the Salkind Organisation in 1985 to work independently. His later credits include executive producer on Underground (1995), which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes, and producer on Unleashed (2005). He appeared as himself in the 2024 documentary Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story.
