Biography
Pino Donaggio (born Giuseppe Donaggio) is an Italian composer, musician and singer. Born on 24 November 1941 in Burano, near Venice, he trained as a violinist at the conservatories in Venice and Milan and performed with ensembles including I Solisti Veneti before turning to popular music in the late 1950s.
After success as a singer-songwriter, notably with the 1965 hit "Io che non vivo" (recorded in English as "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me"), Donaggio began composing for film with the score for Nicolas Roeg's Don't Look Now (1973). He is known for his long collaboration with Brian De Palma on films including Carrie (1976), Dressed to Kill (1980), Blow Out (1981) and Body Double (1984), as well as scores for The Howling (1981), Piranha (1978) and Seed of Chucky (2004). He has received two Italian Golden Globe Awards for his film music and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the World Soundtrack Academy in 2012.
