John Joseph Travolta is an American actor. He was born on 18 February 1954 in Englewood, New Jersey. He began his career in television, appearing in the sitcom Welcome Back, Kotter (1975–1979), before taking film roles including Billy Nolan in Carrie (1976).

Travolta became a leading man with performances in Saturday Night Fever (1977) and Grease (1978). His career saw a resurgence with the role of Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction (1994). He has also appeared in films such as Face/Off (1997) and The Punisher (2004), and voiced the title character in Bolt (2008). Travolta has received nominations for two Academy Awards for Best Actor.
