Biography
Ray Stark (1915–2004) was an American film producer and talent agent. He began his career as a literary and theatrical agent before co-founding Seven Arts Productions in 1957 and later establishing Rastar Productions in 1966.
Stark produced the stage musical Funny Girl in 1964 and its 1968 film adaptation starring Barbra Streisand, whose mother Fanny Brice was Stark's mother-in-law. He produced numerous other films including The Way We Were (1973), The Goodbye Girl (1977), Annie (1982) and Steel Magnolias (1989), often collaborating with directors such as Herbert Ross and writers such as Neil Simon. In 1980 he received the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
