Biography
Richard T. Hoover is an American production designer, set designer and art director working in theatre, television and film. He trained at Knox College and the University of Minnesota, and served as a set design apprentice at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis before beginning his professional career in Chicago theatre.
Hoover began working in film in 1982. He was production designer on the television series Twin Peaks (1990–1991). His other production design credits include Dead Man Walking (1995), Girl, Interrupted (1999), Payback (1999), The Mothman Prophecies (2002), The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007), 42 (2013) and Second Act (2018).
In theatre he won the 1999 Tony Award for Best Scenic Design for Not About Nightingales. He received an Emmy nomination for the television film Live from Baghdad (2002). Later credits include the miniseries The Plot Against America (2020) and the film Finestkind (2023).
