Biography
Richard Loo (1903–1983) was an American actor of Chinese ancestry, born in Maui, Hawaii. He appeared in more than 120 films between 1931 and 1982, primarily in supporting and character roles.
After graduating from the University of California, Berkeley, and working in business, the 1929 stock market crash prompted him to pursue acting through amateur and professional theatre. He became a familiar face in Hollywood films of the 1930s and 1940s, often cast as Japanese military officers during the Second World War in titles such as The Purple Heart (1944) and God Is My Co-Pilot (1945).
Loo continued working in film and television into the 1970s and 1980s. His credits include The Sand Pebbles (1966) and a role as Hai Fat in the James Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun (1974). He also appeared in episodes of series such as Kung Fu (1972) and Hawaii Five-O (1969).
