Biography
Roald Dahl was a British writer born on 13 September 1916 in Llandaff, Cardiff, Wales. He served in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War and later worked as an intelligence officer. Dahl began publishing in the 1940s and wrote both children's fiction and short stories for adults.
He wrote the screenplay for the James Bond film You Only Live Twice (1967). His novels provided the basis for the films Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009) and Roald Dahl's The Witches (2020). Other works include Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (1964), Matilda (1988), The BFG (1982) and James and the Giant Peach (1961).
Dahl died on 23 November 1990. His books have been adapted into numerous films and have sold more than 250 million copies worldwide.
