Biography
Robert Fletcher was an American costume and set designer. He served as costume designer for the first four Star Trek feature films: Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979), Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982), Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984) and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986). He also designed costumes for films including Caveman (1981), The Last Starfighter (1984) and Fright Night (1985).
Fletcher had a long career in theatre, ballet and opera, with credits on Broadway productions such as the original How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and Walking Happy. He received three Tony Award nominations and a Drama Desk Award nomination. In television he worked as NBC's general designer in the 1950s and received a Primetime Emmy nomination for North and South: Book II (1986). He was awarded the Costume Designers Guild Career Achievement Award in 2005 and the Theatre Development Fund/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008.
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Fletcher died in Kansas City, Missouri, in 2021.
