Biography

Roberto Schaefer is an American cinematographer. He began his career in Europe in the 1980s, working as a camera operator and Steadicam operator for directors including Martin Scorsese and Nestor Almendros, before moving to Los Angeles in the early 1990s.

He is known for his collaborations with Christopher Guest on films such as Waiting for Guffman (1996) and Best in Show (2000), and with Marc Forster on nine films including Monster's Ball (2001), Finding Neverland (2004), Stranger Than Fiction (2006), The Kite Runner (2007) and Quantum of Solace (2008). Other credits include The Host (2013), Geostorm (2017) and The Peripheral (2022).

Schaefer received a BAFTA nomination for best cinematography for Finding Neverland and shared a Camerimage Golden Frog award with Marc Forster in 2013. He holds a BFA in multimedia and conceptual art with a minor in photography.
