Biography
Ronald Neame (1911–2010) was an English cinematographer, producer, screenwriter and director. He began his career in the 1920s as an assistant cameraman, working with Alfred Hitchcock on Blackmail (1929), and became a cinematographer on numerous films including In Which We Serve (1942).
In partnership with David Lean and Anthony Havelock-Allan at Cineguild, Neame produced Brief Encounter (1945) and Great Expectations (1946), and co-wrote both, earning Academy Award nominations for adapted screenplay. He later directed films such as The Man Who Never Was (1956), The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1969), Scrooge (1970), The Poseidon Adventure (1972) and The Odessa File (1974).
Neame was appointed CBE in 1996 and received the BAFTA Fellowship for his contributions to British cinema.
