Biography
Ross Devenish is a South African film and television director. Born on 15 November 1939, he studied film-making in London and began his career in the 1960s making documentaries.
He directed the eight-part BBC adaptation of Charles Dickens's Bleak House (1985), which won three BAFTA Television Awards. Devenish has also directed episodes of series including Agatha Christie's Poirot (1990–1992), Between the Lines (1994), A Touch of Frost and The Bill.
Earlier in his career he collaborated with playwright Athol Fugard on feature films such as Boesman and Lena (1973), The Guest (1977) and Marigolds in August (1980). He lives in Cape Town.
