Biography

J. C. Wilsher, full name John Charles Wilsher, is an English television screenwriter and playwright. He is best known for police and law enforcement dramas.

He worked as a researcher at Lancaster University before beginning his writing career in radio. Over more than forty years in television he contributed scripts to series including The Bill (53 episodes, 1989–2001), for which he is credited as creator of the spin-off Between the Lines (1992–1994). He also wrote episodes of Torchwood (2008), New Tricks, Midsomer Murders, Silent Witness, The Vice, Death in Paradise and others.

Wilsher served as Past President and Deputy Chair of the Writers' Guild of Great Britain. Between the Lines received WGGB Awards for Original Drama Series in 1993 and 1995, as well as BAFTA, Royal Television Society and Broadcasting Press Guild awards.
