Biography
Ruggero Mastroianni was an Italian film editor. Born in Turin on 7 November 1929, he was the younger brother of actor Marcello Mastroianni. He began working in cinema in the late 1940s as an assistant editor and became a leading figure in Italian post-war editing.
Mastroianni edited all of Federico Fellini's films from Giulietta degli spiriti (1965) onwards, including Amarcord (1973), Roma (1972) and Ginger and Fred (1986). He maintained a similarly long collaboration with Luchino Visconti on films such as Death in Venice (1971) and Ludwig (1972). Other notable credits include Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion (1970), My Friends (1975) and The Marquis of Grillo (1981). He also appeared as an actor alongside his brother in Scipione detto anche l'Africano (1971).
Mastroianni won five David di Donatello awards for best editing and one Nastro d'Argento. He died in Torvaianica on 9 September 1996.
