Biography
Russell Hicks (born Edward Russell Hicks) was an American character actor. He appeared in nearly 300 films between 1915 and 1956, often in supporting roles as judges, attorneys, businessmen or officials.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, on 4 June 1895, Hicks served in the US Army during the First World War. He began his screen career with an uncredited role in The Birth of a Nation (1915) and later appeared in films including You Can't Take It with You (1938), The Bank Dick (1940), Sergeant York (1941), The Little Foxes (1941) as William Marshall, Scarlet Street (1945) and Samson and Delilah (1949). He also performed on Broadway and in television.
Hicks died in Los Angeles on 1 June 1957 following a heart attack.
