Biography
Russell Smith is an American film producer. Born Russell Alan Smith on 21 April 1954 in Springfield, Illinois, he began his career in theatre as a producer at the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago for five years. He later worked as an arts consultant and producer for First National of Chicago's summer concert series and served as head of production at New Visions Pictures from 1989 until around 1998.
In 1998, Smith co-founded the production company Mr. Mudd with Lianne Halfon and John Malkovich. The company has produced films including Ghost World (2001), The Libertine (2004), Juno (2007) and The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012). For Juno, Smith shared an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture, as well as an Independent Spirit Award and a Christopher Award.
