Biography
Sachio Sakai (堺 左千夫), born Yukio Abe (阿部 幸男) on 8 September 1925 in Tokyo, was a Japanese actor. He graduated from Tokyo City Asakusa Technical College and entered Toho's first New Face actors' training programme in 1946. His film debut came in 1947 in Akira Kurosawa's One Wonderful Sunday.
Sakai appeared in numerous Toho productions, often in supporting roles. He worked frequently with directors including Kurosawa, Ishirō Honda and Kihachi Okamoto. Notable credits include Godzilla (1954) as the newspaper reporter Hagiwara, Seven Samurai (1954) as a coolie, Throne of Blood (1957), The Hidden Fortress (1958), Yojimbo (1961) and King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962). He remained active until the mid-1990s and died on 11 March 1998.
