Biography

Sam Levy is an American cinematographer. He began his career as an assistant to cinematographer Harris Savides, who introduced him to director Noah Baumbach.

Levy first gained recognition for his work on Kelly Reichardt’s Wendy and Lucy (2008). He shot Baumbach’s Frances Ha (2013), continuing the collaboration on While We’re Young (2015) and Mistress America (2015). He also photographed Greta Gerwig’s directorial debut Lady Bird (2017), having met her during Frances Ha.

Other credits include Maggie’s Plan (2016), Confess, Fletch (2022) and His Three Daughters (2024). He served as cinematographer and producer on Mayday (2021).
