Biography
Sheila Reid is a Scottish actress. Born on 21 December 1937 in Glasgow, she was educated at Moreton Hall School in Shropshire and trained at Rose Bruford College in London, also studying at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
She began her career in theatre, becoming an original member of the Royal National Theatre in 1963 and appearing as Bianca in its production of Othello alongside Laurence Olivier. She has also worked with the Old Vic and the Royal Shakespeare Company. On screen from 1960, her television roles include Madge Harvey in the sitcom Benidorm (2007–2016) and Iris in Big Boys (2022). Film appearances include Mrs Buttle in Brazil (1985). She was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2011.
