Biography

Simon Day is an English comedian and actor. He rose to prominence as a stand-up comic, winning the Time Out new act of the year award in 1991 with his music hall character Tommy Cockles.

Day is best known for his work on the BBC sketch series The Fast Show (1994–2014), in which he played numerous characters including Dave Angel, Billy Bleach and Competitive Dad. He also co-wrote material for the show and appeared in the related sitcom Grass (2003).

His other credits include film roles in Shakespeare in Love (1998) and Run Fatboy Run (2007), and television appearances in Skins (2007), Death in Paradise (2011) and Pennyworth (2019). In 2012 he published the autobiography Comedy and Error: They Really Were Marvellous Times.
