Biography
Stephen Murphy is an Irish cinematographer. He is a member of the British Society of Cinematographers and the Irish Society of Cinematographers, and served as president of the latter from 2023 to 2025.
Murphy began in prosthetics design and miniature building in Ireland before moving into the camera department. He completed a six-week 35mm film production course at the UCD School of Film in Ardmore Studios, Dublin, and trained on the job, progressing from assistant roles before relocating to London.
He has served as director of photography on series including Line of Duty (2017–2019) and Atlanta (2022), for which he received an ASC Award nomination. Other credits include Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2024) and the mini-series Say Nothing (2024), which earned BAFTA TV Craft and IFTA nominations.
