Biography
Stephen Sommers is an American film director, screenwriter and producer. Born on 20 March 1962 in Indianapolis, Indiana, he began his career writing screenplays for films including The Adventures of Huck Finn (1993) and Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book (1994), which he also directed.
He wrote and directed Deep Rising (1998) before achieving major success with The Mummy (1999), for which he received screenplay and director credits. Sommers went on to direct and write The Mummy Returns (2001) and Van Helsing (2004), and directed G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009). Other credits include the screenplay for Tom and Huck (1995) and direction of Odd Thomas (2013).
