Paula Sanders can make a mess of things without losing our sympathy. In Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed (2026), Tatiana Maslany supplies much of the humour without treating Paula's chaos as a complete personality. Divorce and custody put pressure on her even when she is being funny. We cared about Paula because Maslany made those pressures felt beneath choices that could otherwise have been merely exhausting. It is a warm, absorbing performance in a good comic thriller that sometimes gives her too much plot to contend with.
Orphan Black (2013–2017) brought her to prominence through a more conspicuous acting challenge: Sarah Manning and multiple clones, often appearing together. Different accents, movements and mannerisms distinguish the characters, while the emotional detail gives us a reason to care beyond the technical achievement. A supporting role opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in Stronger (2017) put her in a drama about trauma and recovery. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022) gave her Jennifer Walters and a comic superhero lead. Those parts suggest why she need not keep repeating the feat that first drew attention.
With Paula, the useful skill is making contradictory behaviour understandable. Maslany keeps the comedy going without softening Paula's self-destructive choices or treating them as all we need to know about her. We can enjoy Paula's company and still recognise that her mistakes matter. The series' cam-boy premise gives her embarrassment and uncertainty to work with, enough to sustain our interest without constant fresh trouble. Its brisk succession of crises is entertaining, but the performance makes a persuasive case for spending longer with the problems already there.
The limitation becomes clearer as the mystery grows more elaborate and the cam-boy premise loses importance. Maslany remains engaging, but keeping track of the plot starts to compete with watching Paula. That is a reservation about the writing, not a reason to pretend the performance can solve everything around it. We recommend the series for her, with patience for its complications. A writer willing to let her stay with one crisis might find there was quite enough going on.
Biography
Tatiana Maslany is a Canadian actress. Born on 22 September 1985 in Regina, Saskatchewan, she first gained attention in Canadian television series including Heartland and Being Erica before her breakthrough in the science-fiction series Orphan Black (2013–2017).
In Orphan Black she portrayed multiple cloned characters, winning a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2016 and several Canadian Screen Awards. She has since appeared in films such as The Vow (2012), Woman in Gold (2015) and Stronger (2017), and played the title role in the Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022).
Maslany stars as Paula Sanders in the 2026 Apple TV+ series Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed.
